Accessing subjective experience

We act like language is the only way to access others’ subjective experience as if the inability to speak makes an animal's inner life unknowable. But why should language be necessary? It's just one form of brain output, a set of learned motor patterns. Why shouldn't other forms of output like neural activity itself and brain imaging of it be equally informative?
